Thorne Cottage is a superb four bedroom country home with a wealth of character throughout gently nestled on the edge of a peaceful hamlet on Bodmin Moor. This residence has been home to our clients for over 20 years who have bought up their family and lovingly cared for and thoughtfully extended the accommodation which would suit a wide range of buyers including those who work from home.
Inside, the feature entrance porch with its stained glass leads into the formal dining room which exudes warmth and personality, with its striking flagstone flooring and an impressive fireplace housing a wood burning stove as its stand out feature. The adjoining snug continues the theme of cosiness, offering a cool environment in the summer and is wonderfully snug in the winter when the log fire lights and warms the space. A stunning orangery, completed in 2016, provides an inviting and light filled living space that our clients use daily which opens directly onto the garden through bi-fold doors. The well proportioned kitchen is perfect for everyday dining, and fitted in a traditional style featuring shelving and plate racks, solid worktops and a Belfast sink, there is an electric Aga and integrated appliances including a Bosch dishwasher and refrigerator. A practical utility room leads out via a stable door to the garden. Concluding this level is the cloakroom/WC.
Upstairs, the spacious landing with its solid floor has an area that is used as a study. This leads to four comfortable bedrooms, including a triple aspect principal bedroom with wonderful views and an en-suite shower room finished with quality tiling from top to bottom. The remaining bedrooms are served by a family bathroom/WC, and one has been successfully used as a home office.
Thorne Cottage benefits from wooden double glazed windows and warmth is generated by oil fired central heating, ensuring year round comfort.
The property is accessed by a private lane shared with just a few other homes. The driveway is gated and gravelled providing space for off road parking for several cars. Two single garages with power and light provide further parking or storage.
The gardens are a huge feature of the home and are multi-level extending to over one acre, they are beautifully landscaped with lawns and patios, meandering long paths flanked by mature trees including silver birch and monkey puzzle and established shrubs such as acers, rhododendrons and camelias. For the green fingered gardener who wants to grow fine produce from the rich soil there are three greenhouses and a polytunnel, as well as fruit trees and bushes. Additional buildings include a summerhouse, pond and Dunster cabin with power offering idyllic spaces to relax in and enjoy the far reaching views, shelter and shade. With the old former mine railway visible you get a real feel of the rich heritage of the location. An historic outbuilding within the grounds has approved consent for conversion and extension into a one bedroom holiday let under application number PA25/01237. This demonstrates the opportunity for additional income or flexible accommodation. All of the external sheds and stores have power, light and water connected. All plans supporting the application are available for inspection.
Darite enjoys a superb rural setting on the edge of Bodmin Moor, an area of outstanding beauty with expanses of open moorland, rolling hills and panoramic countryside. The landscape here is rich in mining heritage, with old tin and copper workings like those on nearby Caradon Hill contributing to the historic character of the area. Darite benefits from both tranquillity and convenience: It has a well-regarded primary school, local amenities and a strong community spirit, while the market town of Liskeard and its main line railway station is just 15 minutes’ drive away. With direct access to scenic walking and cycling trails, and clear skies bathing the moor, this location offers a rare mix of peace, history and opportunity.
From Launceston Town Centre proceed along the A388 (Western Road) upon reaching Pennygillam Roundabout take the third exit signposted toward South Petherwin heading South on the B3254. Continue for approximately 6 miles passing through the village of South Petherwin and hamlets of Slipper Hill and Congdons Shop continuing straight ahead at the crossroads. Continue passing through Berrio Bridge and upon exiting Middlewood continue up the hill along the B3254 for a further couple of miles until reaching Darleyford. Upon reaching Upton Cross turn right towards Minions. Continue up the hill and through the village of Minions and onto the open moor. After approximately 1.4 miles turn sharp left towards Darite. Continue into and through Higher Tremarcombe. Upon entering Darite after a further 0.3 of a mile turn left along the no through road towards the School (which you will pass on your right hand side). Continue until where the road becomes a track and turn sharp right down the hill where Thorne Cottage will be found on the left hand side.
