by order of trustees - An impressive freehold Pembrokeshire estate comprising an imposing Grade II Listed Georgian country house suitable for renovation and refurbishment and offering potential for a variety of alternative uses (subject to all requisite consents). Set in stunning countryside and in all extending to approximately 48.16 hectares (119 acres). Vacant.

Description

The Estate has not been used since 2022 and is now suitable for renovation and refurbishment. (Please note - photographs were taken in 2021).

Orielton is an historic country house and estate. It was the seat of the Owen baronets from the 16th to 19th centuries. Over the years the property has been owned by various families.

It was used by the Australian Air Force during the Second World War.

Naturalist Ronald Lockley bought the estate in 1950 and started its links to important research and studies. He played a key role in establishing the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Oil Pollution Research Unit began at Orielton in 1967.

The present owners, the Field Studies Council bought the property in 1963 and, until around 2020, it was a centre for exploration, fieldwork, enjoyment and research for all ages in Pembrokeshire's famous geology, rocky shore ecology, wildlife habitats and marine life.

The mansion house, stable and coach house courtyard, cottages and land offer potential for a variety of alternative uses in, for example, the residential, commercial, leisure, education or healthcare sectors (subject to all requisite consents).

Location

Despite its rural setting, Orielton is conveniently close to local towns including the famous castle town of Pembroke (about three miles to the north-east) and Tenby (just over 13 miles to the east). The famous Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is also close by with its miles of award winning Blue Flag beaches such as Freshwater West & East and Barafundle Bay.

Transport

Excellent transport services are accessible. There are ferry and rail connections at Pembroke Dock (about 5.5 miles to the north). There is easy road access over Pembrokeshire and further east to Carmarthen and the A48 M4 link road (about 34 miles distant). The M4 is the main artery in south Wales with Swansea (about 61 miles to the east) and Cardiff (about 100 miles) being the nearest cities before Newport (about 108 miles) and the Severn Bridge to England.
