The Staithe feeds into Barton Broad, the second largest of the broads, with excellent sailing and wildlife, and which leads onto the wider broads network.

The neighbouring village of Neatishead has a local community shop, primary school and The White Horse public house. There is a modern village hall offering many activities and facilities.

The busy heart of the Broads, Wroxham, lies approximately four miles distant and offers supermarkets and leisure activities. The city of Norwich is about 13 miles. There is a rail service from Norwich to Wroxham as well as from Wroxham to the coast.
