This outstanding five-bedroom penthouse occupies a remarkable position within The Power House, a distinguished Grade ii-listed former power station tucked just moments from lively Chiswick High Road. Extending to more than 3,500 sq ft across two bright, expansive levels, it enjoys far-reaching views from its generous south-facing roof terrace. The apartment also benefits from both communal lift access and a private internal lift linking its floors, as well as secure underground parking.

The Power House was conceived by architects William Curtis Green and J. Clifton Robinson and completed in 1901 as the electricity-generating hub for the London United Electrical Tramway Company. Nikolaus Pevsner and Bridget Cherry described it as a “monumental free Baroque brick and stone composition”. Rectangular in form, its façades are defined by vast arched bays-five on one side and three on the other. In 1975, it became one of the earliest Victorian structures, and notably the first building of the 20th century, to receive a Grade II listing.

In 1985, the upper storeys were sensitively converted into residential accommodation by David Clarke Associates. Four years later, the lower floors were transformed into recording studios by Powell-Tuck Connor & Orefelt. These remain active today and have welcomed an extraordinary roster of artists, including Queen, Prince, Adele, George Michael and Amy Winehouse, among many others.

Positioned on the first and second floors, the apartment is reached via lifts from the communal lobby, with an additional private lift offering seamless movement between its own levels.

The main living area unfolds across a vast open-plan upper floor, nearly 11 metres wide. From the entrance level, a broad central staircase leads directly into this spectacular space, immediately framing views through an expanse of south-facing glazing to the large decked terrace beyond.

Above, a striking interplay of steel trusses and timber beams converges around a central roof lantern, flooding the room with daylight. Further rooflights illuminate the dining and kitchen areas along the eastern side. The kitchen, positioned in the northeast corner, is by Bulthaup. In the opposite corner, a set of floating glass steps leads to a mezzanine study, enclosed by frosted-glass balustrades. Throughout, engineered oak floorboards with underfloor heating provide uniform warmth and texture.

The lower level contains four bedrooms and a television room/snug, which could function as a fifth bedroom if desired. The principal suite occupies the southern corner in a generous sequence of interlinked spaces. The bedroom opens to a Jack-and-Jill shower room concealed behind a sliding door. Beyond, Crittall-style glazed doors reveal the main bathroom, illuminated from above and centred around a Corian free-standing bath. Another set of glazed sliding doors leads to the dressing room, which can also be accessed from the second bedroom through its own Crittall-style doors. Further to this, you could also add a bathroom in the dressing room as a sixth bathroom.

Three bedrooms have en suite facilities, while the fourth is served by a shower room located at the core of the plan. A guest WC lies off the main entrance hall on this level. The third and fourth bedrooms are situated in the southeast corner and share access to a private terrace. The larger room includes bespoke joinery incorporating steps to a small mezzanine study. A utility room occupies the north-west corner, just before the snug.

The apartment comes with a secure underground parking space, with additional visitor parking available at ground level.

The Power House enjoys a prime position just off Chiswick High Road, where national brands sit alongside independent shops, cafés, restaurants, bars and a recently opened five-screen cinema. Nearby Turnham Green Terrace is lined with much-loved local businesses, including Chief Coffee and High Road House of the Soho House group. To the south, Devonshire Road offers another vibrant stretch of boutiques, cafés and restaurants such as La Trompette, Vinoteca and Genco barbers, while the delightful Tuscan restaurant Villa di Geggiano is only moments away.

Chiswick House – an 18th-century Palladian villa set within 65 acres of landscaped gardens – lies around 10 minutes' walk from Dale Street, and the Thames is also easily reached on foot to the south.

Turnham Green (District and Piccadilly lines) and Stamford Brook (District line) stations are both around six minutes away on foot. Heathrow Airport and the M25 can be reached in roughly 20 minutes by car, and the M4 is only moments from the doorstep for swift travel westward.
