Description
Hollin Old Hall, formerly known as Old Hollin Hall, traces its origins to the early 17th century, a period considered the golden age of British architecture. Originally a grand hall, later a working farmhouse, it was remodelled in the late 18th century by the Ascoli family and divided into two residences. In the 21st century, it was meticulously restored by the current owners into a single, exceptional family home.
Constructed of buff sandstone rubble with a Kerridge stone slate roof, the property is rich in Stuart and Jacobean influences: Including Stone mullioned and transomed windows, Chamfered ceiling beams with flat stops, Original wooden panelling, impressive inglenook fireplaces and an Adam-style fireplace salvaged from Tadcaster Hall.
One of the more colourful tales linked to the property recalls that in 1745, a King’s chest of money was stolen from marching soldiers and hidden beneath a stone slab in the cellar, where an inscription still reads, “This must stand here forever, Richard Broster 1757.”
The interiors exude a sense of heritage and grandeur, beautifully blended with modern functionality and the grounds and gardens are equally impressive presented exquisitely. The property enters into a delightful entrance porch and into the fabulous entrance hallway finished with beautiful parquet flooring, a period fireplace and an impressive original walnut staircase and internal doors.
The magnificent principal reception rooms lead off this spectacular entrance hall, including; the double aspect drawing room, with a grand stone fireplace which create a formal yet inviting reception space, with bay window with bespoke window seating framing the gardens perfectly; the library evokes an intimate retreat with bespoke joinery, stained glass windows, log burner with stone surround and garden views, an oak parlour also serves as a sitting room with richly panelled walls, exposed beams and an open fire, the dining hall, is presented with checkerboard stone flooring, ornate timber fireplace, with generous proportions ideal for entertaining. Leading off the dining hall is the beautifully presented kitchen and breakfast room which creates a central feature of the home combining practical workspace with sociable areas for family gatherings. The kitchen is designed with terracotta floor tiles, oak units and worksurfaces, with a splendid dual fuel four oven aga, space for an American fridge freezer and walk in pantry. A lovely breakfast room adjoins the kitchen allowing for relaxed dining.
Completing the downstairs accommodation is an indulgent David Lisle boot room, a WC and a picturesque garden room with access to the charming courtyard. This floor beautifully balances the grandeur of a historic home with the comfort and practicality required for modern living, making it perfectly suited for both family life and entertaining guests in style.
An elegant staircase rises to a most impressive atrium landing, flooded with natural light from the glazed roof above and finished with deep blue carpet runners and fine carved balustrades. From here, doors lead to a superb arrangement of bedrooms and bathrooms, each offering its own distinctive charm and character. The principal bedroom suite is a truly grand space, enjoying dual aspects and commanding views over the landscaped gardens and also benefitting from fitted furniture. Bedroom two is equally generous in proportion and continues the theme of period elegance, decorated in a refined palette with intricate floral wallpaper, it features an original fireplace, ornate cornicing, and ample space for freestanding furniture and a charming outlook through a full height window framed by full-height drapes. Bedroom three is a delightful twin room, immaculately presented with period features and plenty of space for furniture.
