What attracted you to the property when you bought it?We moved into our house on our wedding anniversary on 31st July 1995. We were downsizing and wanted a smaller garden and a reasonably spacious detached three double bedroomed house, with two reception rooms and with a southerly aspect to the rear. We also wanted compact easily maintained gardens to front and rear. Derby Close is a cul de sac comprising 5 detached houses and 3 detached bungalows. It is situated in a semi-rural position with only a five-minute walk to the centre of the village in one direction and only a couple of minutes to open countryside. The village itself is a vibrant place to live with essential shops, schools, gp Surgery, pharmacy, 3 pubs and two restaurants. Public transport is excellent with a regular bus service to Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. Hildenborough Station is on the main line to London (40ins) in one direction and to Hastings and Dover in the other. We have a local church and chapel and many clubs and associations. The village is also blessed with a number of open spaces, the village green, the recreation ground and Westwood. The latter two also boast child friendly play equipment and Westwood is intersected by lovely woodland paths and glades. All in all, an idyllic place to live. Only six weeks ago we had no thoughts of moving and now we are only contemplating this due to our age and needing to be closer to our daughter.
What improvements have you made to the house? When we moved in, we had the whole house redecorated both inside and out. We have regularly maintained the property. In addition, we had all the windows changed to UPVC lockable double glazing and also multi locking UPVC doors. We added a porch with a multi locking wooden door. A UPVC conservatory has been added to the rear of the garage with access from the garage and from the lounge. A large en-suite bathroom has been added to the main bedroom and contains two large double wardrobes. Both the front and rear gardens were landscaped and are easily maintained. In the back garden there are two sheds and a large summer house. Within the last month we have replaced the gas fire in the lounge with a modern remotely controlled electric fire.
What have you enjoyed about living there?Having lived in the village from birth for my wife and from the age of 15 for me is I think testament in itself as to why we have enjoyed living here. The village contains everything we need to live a happy and contented life. It is only age and recent poor health that is the driver to move.
Location
The property is located in the popular village of Hildenborough which offers local shops and post office and a variety of amenities. This includes medical centre, village hall, church, public house, library and Ridings Café. The weekly farmers’ market is also a popular meeting place for the local community. There are excellent educational options with well regarded schools including Stocks Green and Hildenborough primary schools, grammar schools in Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Tunbridge Wells including Judd and The Skinners School, together with Sackville and Fosse Bank in the village.
The village is served by its own mainline station which offers services to London Charing Cross (via Waterloo East) and Cannon Street with commuter bus service from Brookmead to the station. The A21 by-pass links to the M25 motorway network to London, the south coast, major airports, the Channel Tunnel and Bluewater shopping centre while nearby towns of Sevenoaks and Tonbridge offer comprehensive shopping and recreational facilities. Leisure facilities include Nizels Golf and Country Club, Hilden Golf Driving range with gym, cricket at The Vine in Sevenoaks and Sevenoaks Rugby Club.
