Description
14 Calverley Park Crescent is a Grade II* listed townhouse, positioned towards the middle of this fine Regency crescent, designed by Decimus Burton and constructed between 1832 and 1835 of local Tunbridge Wells stone. Originally, these properties provided shops and services to the grand villas in Calverley with the accommodation above, but by 1837 they reverted to full residential use. Elements of the shop fronts still remain although they have been sympathetically updated to blend as one, with the wonderful period details. The property retains much of its original character and this has been unspoilt over the years in its adaptation to family life, although it has certainly benefitted recently from a very sympathetic and stylish updating throughout. The accommodation is steeped in period features and set out over four floors, accessed by its original turned staircase, complete with the polished mahogany rail and stick balusters. The impressive first floor Drawing room is of particular note, with its feature 'Regency style' marble fireplace surround, its elegant proportions and high ceiling with mouldings and picture rail, and with fine twin, full height window casements, including working shutters and French doors, opening to the rear facing roof terrace, which overlooks the delightful communal grounds.
The ground floor hall, dining room and kitchen are all fitted with very elegant walnut parquet flooring and the kitchen is imaginatively designed and fitted with stone worksurfaces, contemporary style units and display shelving. This is all complemented by Miele appliances, including an oven, separate steam oven, a gas hob, plus an integrated dishwasher and larder fridge The principal bedroom is found on the second floor, along with the large bathroom/dressing room, with fitted wardrobes and a traditional style suite. Bedroom four is on the first floor and could alternatively be a study, with working shutters, book shelving and panelling, while the lower ground floor has a secondary entrance out to Crescent Road, comprising two rooms, either as bedrooms 2 and 3, or alternatively as one bedroom and a sitting room, with a kitchenette and shower room, giving the option here for a self-contained apartment.
Outside, there is a communal walkway, on a raised colonnade approach, giving access to the front door, which looks out across the landscaped communal garden. There is parking for up to two residents' cars in the private road, plus one permit for visitors' parking. However, please note that parking in the Crescent is controlled by the Trustees of Calverley Park Crescent (currently two residents), so is not included in the Title and therefore the residents have no legal right to park.
