About this property
Molten Court is part of a considered development in Deptford, south-east London, completed in 2019 to a design by Rolfe Judd architect. Designed to connect Arklow Road with nearby Folkestone Gardens, the development is made up of residential spaces, artists’ studios and two public squares. This dynamic apartment lies on the building's second floor and faces south, an orientation that bathes its rooms and private balcony with light.
The Building
Molten Court forms part of Anthology Deptford Foundry, a refined development built on the site of a metal foundry opened in 1831. It is one of a series of warehouse-style buildings inspired by the site’s industrial history. Eco credentials are impressive: There are solar panels, biodiverse green roofs and a centralised energy centre, and each apartment is fitted with an mvhr system.
There is a concierge on site, as well as secure bicycle storage.
The Tour
Stairs or a lift provide access to this apartment. Behind its private front door is a hallway with a large utility cupboard and separate storage for coats.
Beyond is the open-plan core of the apartment, divided between kitchen, living and dining areas. Bespoke plywood bench seating wraps around the corner, hugging a matching dining table. The smart kitchen has composite stone worktops, and appliances include a Siemens oven with induction hob and a dishwasher.
A sliding door delineates an adjacent space, currently used as a home office and second bedroom. It has a brilliant plywood storage system, as well as a set of cosy bunk beds. Next door, the primary double bedroom has forest-green walls and generous fitted storage. The bathroom has a bathtub with an overhead shower.
Outdoor Space
A peaceful balcony with room for a table and chairs receives plenty of light and is a great spot for the green-fingered to tend to potted plants.
The Area
Deptford is a thriving area of south-east London with a growing cultural profile and many independent restaurants, bars and cafes. Close by, New Cross is home to Goldsmiths University and its Contemporary Arts Centre.
Moulding Lane is a quiet, pedestrianised street off Arklow Road. Nearby is Arch Bakery, offering freshly baked sourdough, Elsewhere Roastery, which serves delicious coffees and flaky pastries, as well as the neighbourhood cafe Sylva, open for breakfast and lunch in nearby Folkestone Gardens. There's also a handy convenience store around the corner for essentials.
Deptford High Street is a 15-minute walk away and has a wonderful local market, as well as some excellent bars and restaurants. We've written more about it in our residents' guide.
Nunhead Green is a short cycle south-west and is home to a wide range of independent cafés, shops and restaurants, including Ayres Bakery and an independently owned garden store, the Nunhead Gardener. Some of the city’s best parks are close by, along with the Thames Path.
New Cross Gate, New Cross, and Deptford rail stations are all within a 15-minute walk of the apartment. Both New Cross stations provide routes to Canada Water (for the Jubilee Line) and Shoreditch via the Windrush line (Overground), and there are options for direct National Rail services to London Bridge, London Cannon Street, and St Pancras between the three stations.
