Ripple, also known as 'Ripple Vale', is a village and civil parish in the Dover District of Kent. John French, 1st Earl of Ypres, the commander of the first British Expeditionary Force in World War I was born there in 1852, and is buried at the village church. Near the coast, two and a half miles south west of Deal. Deal is a town situated in Kent, which lies on the English Channel, eight miles north-east of Dover and eight miles south of Ramsgate. Today it is a seaside resort with its award-winning High Street, high-speed train Links to St Pancras and independent shops.
