A distinguished Grade II former vicarage with extensive accommodation, coach house and exceptional south facing gardens
Description
A handsome Grade II* listed former vicarage set in a highly convenient location near Cambridge, with extensive accommodation, a separate coach house and beautifully established south facing gardens. This is a fine and well-preserved example of the very late architectural style of William White, one of the most prominent Victorian architects, and has been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard. Whilst located just five miles from Cambridge city centre, the property enjoys grounds of 1.5 acres and is set back from the road with an exceptional degree of privacy.
The house is entered through an impressive arched doorway leading into a spacious reception hall. This central space provides access to the principal rooms and features a striking full height void rising to the upper floor, lit by a large Gothic stained glass window. A substantial staircase ascends to the first floor. The main reception rooms include a generous reception room with views over the gardens, working shutters and an open fireplace, together with a well proportioned dining room with a feature fireplace.
The kitchen and adjoining breakfast/family room enjoy direct access to the south facing terrace and garden. The space is arranged with a defined cooking area and informal dining space divided by an open arch. Adjoining the kitchen is a traditional scullery with access to a small courtyard. Additional ground floor rooms include two useful storage areas, a utility room, a wine cellar, a small library and a cloakroom.
The first floor offers three generous bedrooms and a family bathroom. The main bedroom suite overlooks the garden and includes a dressing room and en suite facilities. A smaller room, currently used as a study/office, is also on this floor. The staircase continues to the second floor, where there is an open study area, two further bedrooms, a large bathroom and dressing room, and an additional room currently used as a cinema but suitable for use as another bedroom if required. A secondary staircase links this floor back to the ground level.
The detached coach house, arranged over two floors, has been converted for use as a home office and offers potential for a variety of uses.
The property is approached by an in and out gravel driveway behind wrought iron fencing and automated gates, with a central planted island and further parking areas to the side. The gardens are a key feature of the house, designed to take advantage of the long south facing aspect with numerous well-established zones, making the gardens perfect for multiple uses throughout the year. Directly behind the house is a Yorkstone terrace bordered by planting, leading onto extensive lawns with mature beds, ornamental shrubs and established trees. A gravel pathway runs through the grounds, connecting seating areas, rose gardens and an orchard. There are a number of outbuildings providing excellent storage and potential for hobby, garden or ancillary uses.
