About this property

This handsome Marylebone townhouse sits within 10 minutes’ walk of Regent’s Park. It has been beautifully renovated in a manner true to its early history, with thoughtful modern details peppered throughout. Original windows across all three storeys draw light in from the front and rear, dispersing brightness throughout. At the rear is a private garden, enclosed by tall, ivy-covered walls.

    The Tour

Located mid-terrace, this house and its neighbours form a quintessentially early Victorian profile, with stucco, stock brick and smart wrought-iron railings to the first floor. Entry is directly to the dining room, a versatile space grounded by rich engineered oak floorboards.

The kitchen lies behind and is open to the rest of the room, an arrangement that creates a sense of continuity and amplifies brightness. Soft-grey cabinets line above and below a concrete countertop. A deep butler’s sink sits beneath a sash window overlooking the garden.

A traditional curved staircase with an elegant original handrail ascends to the first floor, the piano nobile, where the living room is found. An exquisite ornate cast-iron fireplace sits on one side, and there are two almost floor-to-ceiling sash windows with newly installed shutters at the front. As with downstairs, the walls are picked out in a soothing shade, 'Lamp Room Gray' by Farrow and Ball.

Double doors at the rear slide open to a delightful bathroom with Ketley Brick quarry tiles underfoot and square off-white tiles around the walls. There is a large walk-in shower on one side, and a bespoke floating sink area made by Vivari and fabricated by Counter Production in Corian with a clam-shell finish.

The same staircase sweeps up to the top floor, where there are two bedrooms, both with bespoke built-in storage. The largest is at the front and has a dressing table and more shuttered sash windows with far-reaching views which extend towards the BT tower. The other is lined with pretty wallpaper by William Morris. A second bathroom, finished in the same palette as the bathroom, lies between the bedrooms, with a Japanese-style bath clad with square white brick tiles.

    Outdoor Space

A neat rear garden is a tranquil, private place with decked floors and plenty of room for a table and chairs. Ivy grows around high white-painted walls, with plenty more room for placing potted plants.

    The Area

Harewood Avenue is within walking distance of the West End, Marylebone Village and Harley Street. Particularly popular are both Marylebone High Street and Chiltern Street, where firm favourites include Fischer’s, Orrery and Chiltern Firehouse. Marylebone farmers’ market is exceptionally popular, and takes place each Sunday on Aybrook Street. We've written more about Marylebone in our Journal.

The wide-open parkland of Regent’s Park is less than a 10-minute walk away, with its boating lake, famed rose gardens, open-air theatre and large wetland area. Laid out over some 395 acres, it is one of London’s eight Royal Parks and was named after the Prince Regent, though it has a history dating back to originally being King Henry viii’s hunting ground.

Transport Links are exceptional with both Marylebone (Bakerloo line and National Rail), Baker Street (Hammersmith & City line, Circle line, Jubilee line, Metropolitan line, and Bakerloo line) and Paddington stations all close by.
