Description
Thought to have been built in 1830 and extended in 1850, Swyre House has part-stone, part-rendered elevations under a slate roof and spacious accommodation arranged over two floors extending to just over 4000 sq ft. The principal eastern elevation is painted and rendered, has classical Georgian symmetry, elegant sash windows and a stone porch. The remainder of the house has predominantly exposed stone. The entrance porch gives way to a reception hall with stairs to the first floor. Either side are two elegant rooms, the morning room (facing east) with open fireplace and the dining room, also with a fireplace. Within the original footprint of the house is a good size kitchen with seating area and a further sitting room with double doors to a particularly large conservatory overlooking the garden. A splendid drawing room with open fireplace is accessed from both the sitting room and conservatory. A snug off the kitchen, a utility room, boot room, cloakroom and wine store complete the downstairs. On the first floor, four bedrooms are accessed from the landing together with a family bathroom. The principal bedroom suite is a lovely size with twin sash windows offering distant sea views.

Outside
An attractive stone wall runs along the eastern boundary of the property where a private drive through stone pillars and wrought iron gates sweeps round to the front of the house. There is ample parking and access to a cobbled yard, with double garage and the pretty Coach House. From here there is a useful secondary access to the lane. The remainder of the gardens surround the property, with walls and mature hedging defining the boundaries. The south lawn is level and interspersed with some fine mature trees, providing shelter from the coast which is just over 1km as the crow flies. To the north west is a further area of lawn bordered by an old stone wall and a particularly nice summer house with power and light. In all the grounds extend to 1.284 acres.

Location
Swyre House is situated in the pretty village of Swyre lying just 1.5 miles from the beach at West Bexington between the county town of Dorchester and the Georgian town of Bridport.

Swyre has a pretty church dating back to 1400 and in nearby Puncknowle is The Crown Inn, a 16th Century thatched public house.

Just under 6 miles to the west is Bridport, a charming town with several restaurants, pubs, shops, supermarkets including Waitrose, a lively twice weekly street market as well as the highly regarded Electric Palace Theatre.

Dorset’s county town, Dorchester also has an excellent range of facilities including a mainline railway station to London Waterloo.

Less than a mile away to the south of the house is Chesil Beach on the stunning Jurassic Coast, a unesco World Heritage Site.

A short drive away is Burton Bradstock which has a golf course and swimming at Hive Beach - known also for its popular café as well as the Seaside Boarding House boutique hotel.

South West Dorset is a beautiful part of the country, particularly wonderful for walking, riding, sea fishing and sailing (at Weymouth & Portland).
