The Location
Cambus (from the Gaelic camas, meaning “bend in the river”) is a small village near Alloa in Clackmannanshire. It lies beside the River Devon, close to its junction with the Firth of Forth, and is situated approximately four miles east of Stirling, across the river. The village has a population of around 500 people. Primary education is provided in nearby Tullibody, while secondary pupils typically attend school in Alloa. The popular Inn at Cambus, located on the High Street, offers both bar and dining facilities and serves as a focal point for the local community. Historically, the village was well known as the site of Cambus distillery, established in 1806. Although whisky production has ceased, the site remains active and is still used by Diageo for its cooperage operations.
