History
The tollhouse is positioned on the north east corner of Newbridge and was built to replace an earlier toll house erected by the Callington Turnpike Trust in c 1764. Tolls varied from 6d for a carriage pulled by 6 horses to 1 penny for a horse. Turnpike Cottage was built when Newbridge was widened in 1874 and a direct road was cut through the hillside from Newbridge to Callington.

A timber side entrance door opens into a small hall with an opening into the main section of the building, there is an opening into a walk-in area housing a gas boiler and opening to a shower room.
Main Building Section
Currently open from floor to second floor ceiling height with exposed rafters, floor to ceiling chimney, two windows to the far gable end at ground and second floor levels, plus three further blocked up window openings.
Outside
Double timber five bar gates give access onto a parking area for upto minimum of 3/4 vehicles. There is a block built and metal store. A separate timber hand gate gives pedestrian access onto a path that leads to the entrance door.
