About this property

  • Peerless eight-bedroom home set over five floors with superb sea views.

  • Stunning Grade II* listed home in Tenby’s most iconic address.

  • Two private parking spaces and a private garden and terrace to the rear.

  • Direct access to the beach, with the harbour a stone’s throw away.

St Catherine’s House occupies the most prominent position in Lexden Terrace, widely recognised as ‘the finest terrace in Tenby’. The largest of the original five houses that were built between 1843 and 1846, this Grade II* listed property offers superb living space and jaw-dropping views out over the sea to the rear. The property enjoys not only two private parking spaces, but also its own private garden, unlike its neighbours in the terrace. With a cliffside terrace offering superb views of St Catherine’s Island to the rear, the steps down to the golden sands of Castle Beach are sure to provide hours of enjoyment for an owner. The home offers sumptuous living across five floors with up to eight bedrooms and ample reception space. For those looking to purchase a home in Tenby’s most desirable of addresses, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

Stepping inside the home from the parking area at the front, you arrive in the main entrance hallway. This runs to the kitchen/dining room at the rear of the property and has a set of doors halfway along its length. To your right is a door to a cosy reception room, which would also make for a perfect office and looks out over the front of the home. The kitchen at the rear is a great space and provides your first introduction to the superb sea views the property enjoys. The kitchen gives you access to the private rear gardens and has a door into the utility room which opens off it. The stunning original staircase opens off the entrance hall and leads up to the higher floors and down to a shower room and the lower ground floor.

This lower level of the property is a hugely flexible space that could fulfil several roles or even be separated off as secondary or letting accommodation. Originally the kitchens and servants’ quarters, this level offers a bedroom, cloakroom and shower room to the front, and a large games room. This space retains numerous character features including the large Aga range and the original servants’ bells on the wall. There is access out to the rear of the property which leads into a tunnel to the cliff path.

Climbing the staircase to the first floor of the home, you pass a shower room on your way and arrive at the stunning formal sitting room at the rear. Enjoying truly spectacular views over the original balcony, which runs along the whole terrace, this magical room is an absolute delight. A door in the far wall leads you into a charming snug, which offers a more intimate setting in which to relax. To the front of the first floor, you find a large double bedroom.

Continuing up to the second floor, you find the master bedroom suite to the rear. This space has two large bedrooms, one perfect as a dressing room or nursery, along with an en-suite shower room. All these rooms enjoy remarkable sea views and benefit from the beautiful mouldings, cornice work and feature fireplaces found throughout the home. The third floor of the property offers three further double bedrooms along with another bathroom and is flooded with natural light from the stunning cupola rooflight at the top of the staircase.

Externally, the property enjoys two entrances from the parking area: One into the main hall and one into the lower ground floor. There is also access around the side of the home through an enclosed tunnel. To the rear, the house enjoys a private lawned garden (the only one of the original terrace to have this). This area includes a patio seating area and enjoys simply awe-inspiring views over the sea. From the lower ground floor level, a tunnel leads you out to another private seating area to the rear of the home, which is a stunning venue in which to take in the sea views with friends. From here, you join the path shared by the other properties on Lexden Terrace, which winds down the cliff to the golden sands of Castle Beach, making for a world-class back garden.

With all the shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants that Tenby has to offer a stone’s throw from your front door, this remarkable property is truly a breathtaking opportunity for a buyer. While the accommodation seems vast on paper, the immediate sense of homeliness and warmth you experience upon entering the property would make it a perfect family home. When the private gardens and on-site parking are added to this, St Catherine’s House is a truly magical find. The opportunity to own one of the jewels in the crown of the Tenby property market is a chance too good to be missed.
