About this property
This singular five-bedroom home sits in eight acres of rolling hills and countryside on Anglesey. Inside, a series of windows face out to sea, while a vast double reception room is currently used as a games room and sitting area. A separate domed outbuilding is suitable for guest accommodation or as a holiday let. The mesmerising landscapes of Anglesey and its rugged coastline are within easy reach of the house.
The Estate
The Millbank estate was founded in 1784 by the owners of the nearby Parys Mountain Copper Mine, once the largest copper mine in the world.
Built around the same time, the house is peppered with details that reference the history of the estate, including copper taps in the kitchen and a copper bathtub.
The Tour
A private driveway forms the approach to the house. Inside, a double reception room is currently divided into a games room and a sitting room. In the former, timber-panelled walls are washed in a soft green hue, and a large window frames views across the countryside. Parquet flooring runs underfoot and into the sitting room. It has a wood-burning stove and neat tongue-and-groove wall panelling.
Across the hall lies a vast kitchen and dining area. An island is topped with a marble work surface, and there is a Smeg oven. Copper taps pay homage to the history of the estate, while light pours into the space care of two large windows at each end. On this floor there is also a guest bedroom with views of the garden.
Four further double bedrooms are found on the first floor, each with far-reaching views across the landscape. Two have en suite bathrooms; the principal has a copper bathtub, dual washbasins and a walk-in shower. Two shared bathrooms complete the plan.
A striking domed cabin is suitable for guest accommodation, and could also be used as a holiday let.
Outdoor Space
The house is embraced by eight acres of land, encompassing lawned areas, a paddock and a paved terrace. The latter has a heated pergola and affords magnificent views across the rolling hills and countryside.
A private driveway has parking for several cars.
The Area
Pentrefelin is a hamlet situated on Anglesey’s northern part. There are several exceptionally lovely beaches nearby, including Porth Padrig, Traeth Mawr and Traeth Benllech. The Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is around a 30-minute drive away, as is the historic town of Beaumaris. To the west of Millbank, Cemlyn Nature Reserve is known for its spectacular seabird colony.
The port town of Amlwch is a few minutes’ drive from the house. Skye’s is a popular spot for brunch, while the Adelphi Vaults pub is known for its excellent choice of ales and pub grub. The town has a weekly market, and there is a handy Co-op.
There is plenty to explore in Anglesey, including the National Trust-managed Plas Newydd, which has beautiful grounds and a Rex Whistler mural. The Oriel Môn gallery has a brilliant programme of regularly changing exhibitions, while Sosban & The Old Butchers restaurant holds a Michelin star.
The A55 coastal road provides access to many of mainland north Wales’ most popular towns before reaching Chester in the east. The striking architecture of Bangor is also close and accessible by bus; from here, a rail service provides easy and direct access to Llandudno, Chester and London Euston, the latter in as little as three hours and 20 minutes.
