Location
The John Barleycorn occupies a convenient position close to the centre of Goring, a highly regarded Thames-side village that attracts a steady flow of visitors, walkers and tourists, with the Thames Path nearby.
Situated in an enviable position in the heart of this sought-after riverside village, the property is just a few hundred yards from the village centre and the River Thames. It lies within the conservation area, which also falls within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Goring is set within the scenic landscape known as the ‘Goring Gap’, marking the transition between the Chiltern Hills and the Thames Valley. The village offers an excellent range of amenities, including a post office, medical practice, library, dentist and a good selection of local shops, including a butcher and deli, as well as restaurants and well-regarded public houses.
The village benefits from excellent rail connections, with Goring & Streatley station providing a mainline service to Reading, Oxford and London Paddington, with journey times to London from around one hour and faster connections available via Reading.
More extensive facilities can be found in the nearby market town of Wallingford, as well as Reading and Oxford. The area is well served for road communications, with access to the M4 (J12) approximately 11 miles away and the M40 (J6) within 16 miles.
There is an excellent choice of schooling in the area, including Goring Church of England Primary School, Cranford House, Moulsford Prep, The Oratory Schools and Bradfield and Pangbourne Colleges.
Leisure opportunities are plentiful, with golf available at The Springs and Goring & Streatley Golf Club, alongside a wide range of activities on the River Thames. The surrounding countryside offers superb walking and cycling routes, including the Ridgeway, Thames Path and Chiltern Way.
