About this property

An elegant six-bedroom former Victorian Rectory with a distinguished past and stature, having had several titled owners throughout the years. It was originally designed by the architect Henry Jones Underwood. The property was the Rectory to All Saints Church on the edge of the original village of Didcot.

The principal reception rooms maintain numerous features of the era, in particular the high ceilings, fireplaces and cornicing. The current owners have carried out significant improvements throughout the property, resulting in a ’once in a lifetime’ family home just under 6,000 sq. Ft. The property has extensive cellars which (subject to planning) could be converted for a variety of additional uses.

On the ground floor there are five reception rooms, to include a wonderfully light drawing room with French doors leading out onto a large Southerly facing terrace, a generous kitchen/breakfast room, separate utility room and WC. The first floor includes six double bedrooms (one being en-suite) and two bathrooms.

The house itself stands in the middle of the mature plot with parking for a number of cars. The main lawns are southerly facing as is the large terrace leading off French windows in the drawing room.

    Directions

Travel south on the A34 from Oxford. Leave at the Milton interchange and proceed into Didcot. After about a mile continue over the first round about and turn right into Foxhall Road, The Old Rectory is situated a short drive along on the left-hand side directly after the Roman Place turning.

    Location

Of particular note is the distance to Didcot Parkway, which is a 10 minute walk from the house and offers a high-speed rail connection to London Paddington in under 40 minutes, as well being within walking distance of the Orchard Centre. The town of Didcot has comprehensive leisure and sporting facilities for all ages and the Orchard Centre with an array of well-known high street shops including M&S food, a multiplex cinema, Cornerstone Arts Centre and various cafes and restaurants. Didcot has excellent road links to the A34 which in turn lead to the M40 in the north and the M4 in the south as well as an excellent mainline train service to the west and the capital.
