Description
Pilgrims Cottage is a charming, detached period home of traditional stone and brick construction, set in an idyllic position in the picturesque village of Bedham. Surrounded by woodland, the property enjoys a wonderfully tranquil and secluded feel, while remaining conveniently located; approximately 5 miles from the amenities of Petworth.
Accessed via a gated entrance and a long private driveway, the main house offers surprisingly spacious and well proportioned accommodation. The ground floor comprises a welcoming reception hall with exposed beams, a cloakroom, a well appointed kitchen, a separate utility room, a dining room, and a comfortable sitting room featuring a fireplace with a wood burning stove. There are three ground floor bedrooms, two of which benefit from en suite facilities, in addition to a family shower room.
On the first floor, there is a further double bedroom with en suite bathroom and a dressing area, providing a private and comfortable retreat.
Complementing the main house is a detached two bedroom cottage or studio, designed in an attractive Swiss chalet style and presented in good decorative order. The ground floor includes a modern kitchen with breakfast area, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a generous sitting room with a log burner. On the first floor, there is a further bedroom, a shower room, and a walkway leading to a balcony, which enjoys delightful views over the gardens and surrounding countryside.
The property provides ample parking for several vehicles, and the gardens are a particular highlight, especially in spring and summer. Featuring areas of lawn, mature woodland screening, and vibrant rhododendrons, the grounds create a beautiful and private setting. A large terrace adjacent to the main house offers an ideal space for outdoor entertaining.
Please note a large paddock nearby may be available to rent, subject to separate negotiation.
Location
Bedham is a small village situated around four miles outside Petworth and near the village of Fittleworth. It has a lovely mixture of period and more contemporary properties and is home to St Michael and All Angels Church, a derelict Victorian church and former schoolhouse built in 1880 by William Townley Mitford. Located in a wooded valley near Petworth, it served as a school on weekdays and a chapel on Sundays before being abandoned in 1959. It is a picturesque ruin now mostly reclaimed by nature.
Petworth has a selection of shops and the famous Petworth House, with glorious Petworth Park being a magnet for visitors all year round. There are mainline stations at both Haslemere and Pulborough. The former (Waterloo line) is around 14 miles distance and Pulborough (Victoria) is around 5 miles.
