A word from the owners...
Peters Cottage is a brick and flint grade 2 listed building that was listed in 1990.
Thought to be built in circa 1675 as this indicated prominently in the plaster work in the main bedroom. The living room and main bedroom feature oak ‘spine and rib’ beams and are still marked with roman numerals for use when the beams were assembled during fitment at the time of building.
The living room’s prominent feature is the large inglenook fireplace with recesses where the bread oven etc would have been.
Later extensions to the cottage are the downstairs kitchen and bathroom thought to be circa 1940s and the dining room circa 1970s. The garden originally was much larger incorporating an orchard where Bramley Cottage now resides.
Extensive deed documents exist from the 1800s as before this it’s thought the cottage was rented to estate workers.
Peter (circa 1912) of Peters Cottage can be seen in this article -
Peter’s Victorian father Jimmy was a local legend they called Jimmy 2 bits after he found a frog in his stew instead of just the one piece of meat he was expecting.
