The Seller's View
I still remember the very first morning I woke up here. It was summertime, the bedroom window was open and I could hear the gentle ringing of the church bells. People were walking past saying "good morning" to one another, something that sadly feels far less common these days. From that moment on, this house just felt like home.
One of the biggest highlights has always been the location. You're only a short stroll from The Broadway in Thatcham, where you'll find cafés, restaurants, supermarkets and all the everyday essentials you could need. In the early evenings, the local restaurants come to life and the delicious aromas drift across the gardens, creating a lovely atmosphere that almost feels like you're on holiday.
For anyone commuting, it really doesn't get much more convenient. Thatcham railway station is within easy walking distance, while the M4 is only a short drive away, making journeys towards Reading, Newbury, London and beyond incredibly straightforward.
What has made living here truly special, though, is the wonderful sense of community. Everyone in the close is so friendly, and neighbours genuinely look out for one another through both the good times and the difficult ones. It's the sort of place where people still stop for a chat and take the time to say hello.
And if you've ever wondered where the name Nideggen comes from, it's named after the German town that Thatcham is twinned with, a lovely little piece of local history that many people never discover.
Ollie's View
For me, this is a brilliant example of a first home that you could move straight into and then gradually make your own.
This well presented one bedroom end of terrace home in Thatcham is clean, tidy and ready to enjoy, while still giving the next owner plenty of opportunity to add their own style over time.
Downstairs, the reception room leads through to the kitchen with a really useful understairs storage area. Upstairs, the landing gives access to a good size double bedroom with a large built in cupboard, an additional storage cupboard and the bathroom, which also houses the airing cupboard. For a one bedroom home, there's a surprising amount of practical storage throughout.
My favourite part, though, is outside. The rear garden feels wonderfully private, surrounded by established wisteria that creates a really peaceful spot to sit and enjoy the outdoors. It's also very low maintenance, which I think will really appeal to younger buyers who want their own garden without spending every weekend looking after it.
And then there's the location. You're around a 30 second walk from The Broadway in Thatcham, with the town centre's shops, cafés, restaurants and everyday amenities virtually on your doorstep. Add in easy access to Thatcham railway station and you've got a one bedroom home that makes a lot of sense for a first time buyer, commuter or someone simply wanting everything close at hand.
Parking within the close is communal and available on a first come, first served basis. There are also bays on the road where residents can apply to the local authority for parking permits.
The property is freehold, with an annual management charge of approximately £250, which contributes towards the upkeep and maintenance of the communal areas within Nideggen Close.
The Area View
If being able to walk into town matters to you, this is about as convenient as it gets in Thatcham.
The Broadway is around a 30 second walk away, and yes, i've actually timed it! That puts cafés, restaurants, shops, supermarkets and everyday essentials virtually on your doorstep, while Thatcham's town centre and its wider range of amenities are all easily accessible on foot.
For commuters, Thatcham railway station is also within easy walking distance, with direct services towards Reading and London Paddington, as well as Newbury in the opposite direction. Road links are equally convenient, with straightforward access towards Newbury, Reading and the M4 motorway.
Despite being so close to the centre of Thatcham, there are plenty of opportunities to get outdoors too. The Kennet and Avon Canal, surrounding countryside and local green spaces provide some lovely walking routes nearby.
It's a location that works particularly well for anyone wanting to rely less on the car. Whether you're heading out for a coffee, picking up some shopping, meeting friends for dinner or catching the train to work, so much of everyday life is within walking distance.
For a one bedroom home in Thatcham, it's difficult to imagine a much more convenient place to be.
