There are homes that impress you, and then there are homes that stop you in your tracks.

This is one of them.

Thought to date from 1839, this former Wesleyan Methodist chapel was meticulously converted in 2014, and what has been created here is quite extraordinary. Around 2,200 sq ft of beautifully considered living space, where the proportions and character of the original chapel have been retained, but everything around them has been brought beautifully into the present.

The result is elegant without feeling formal, modern without feeling cold, and calm without ever being bland.

And then you start noticing the details.

The hand-made arched doors. The bespoke media wall. Wooden blinds made specifically to sit perfectly within the chapel's arched windows. The stained glass and ornate hammer beams, the floor recessed uplighting that accents everything perfectly. Everywhere you look, there is evidence that someone cared about getting it right.

Step through the entrance vestibule and there is an immediate sense that this is a home designed for real life as well as looking beautiful. There is somewhere to leave coats and boots before you move into the main accommodation, and from here the scale of the chapel begins to reveal itself.

The principal reception space is quite something.

Vaulted ceilings give it a wonderful sense of volume and grandeur without feeling you need to be on your Sunday best behaviour.

The dining area in particular feels made for lingering.

It is easy to imagine friends gathered here for dinner, children sprawled somewhere nearby, or a long Sunday breakfast that somehow turns into lunchtime because nobody wants to leave the table.

The modern fitted kitchen sits comfortably within the space, combining contemporary styling with the warmth of the original building. There is nothing fussy about it; it simply works beautifully with what is already here.

Beyond the main living space, a rear study hall provides a lovely place to work from home. Separate enough to create some separation from the rest of the house, but still connected to it. There is also a useful utility room and rear vestibule, which gives direct access into the garden.

The ground floor also has two generous double bedrooms, including the principal bedroom with its own en-suite shower room and walk-in wardrobe, alongside a guest bedroom with a further en-suite.

And then there is the bathroom.

This isn't an afterthought tucked discreetly away. Full-height, octagonal in shape with six high-level stained-glass windows, with a luxurious, contemporary bathtub where you can soak away all the stresses of the day.

An oak staircase leads you upstairs, the saddleback landing gives way to two further generous double bedrooms, with a family bathroom shared between them.

The proportions are wonderful throughout. Vaulted ceilings, original architectural character and those distinctive arched openings give the house a personality that simply cannot be replicated in a modern build.

Yet this isn't a home where character comes at the expense of comfort.

An air source heat pump, underfloor heating and double glazing where possible, have all been incorporated, making the house as comfortable to live in as it is beautiful to look at. The chapel isn't Grade II listed, although it does sit within the village conservation area, and who would not want to preserve its character and authenticity.

Outside, the same thoughtfulness continues.

There is parking to the front and from the roadside you would never know this private oasis exists, but step through the gate, and you will appreciate what we mean.

The enclosed garden has been landscaped with clean, modern lines, softened by mature planting roses and wisteria that adorn the chapel itself. A generous seating area beneath the pergola creates another room for summer - somewhere to read quietly with a coffee, sit with a glass of wine, or gather around the table for an evening meal.

It is the contrast that makes the garden work so well. The crispness of the landscaping sits alongside established planting, while the old chapel walls provide the perfect backdrop.

And perhaps that is what makes this home so special.

It has been transformed, but not stripped of its past.

The original building gives it soul and a sense of permanence. The conversion has brought warmth, comfort and all the things you want from a contemporary home. And the styling is so beautifully judged that nothing feels forced.

It is the kind of place where you might initially fall for the architecture, but stay for the way it makes you feel.

So yes, the chapel will take your breath away.

But more importantly, once the initial wow has passed, it feels like somewhere you could genuinely live - comfortably, beautifully and for a very long time.
