Beaminster is a small West Dorset market town, rather than a village, lying in a bowl-shaped valley near the source of the River Brit. Its medieval street pattern and historic market-place layout remain unusually well preserved.

A market and fair were granted in the late 13th century, helping Beaminster grow into a trading and cloth-making centre. Wool, flax and linen were once central to the local economy. In the 18th and 19th centuries, flax was spun and woven into canvas, nets, clothing and sailcloth; the surrounding district became an important supplier to the Royal Navy.

A surprising local fact is that Beaminster once had its own racecourse on Beaminster Down. The first meeting in 1867 attracted more than 4,000 spectators, although racing there lasted only until 1870.

Interestingly, Numatic, founded in Crewkerne in 1969, moved into premises on Broadwindsor Road in 1974. The first red Henry vacuum (model HVC200), created by company founder Chris Duncan, rolled off the production line in Beaminster in 1981.

Gardens:
The outside space is mainly to the front of the property with a pretty “sun trap” stone patio area leading to the main garden area with shrub and flower boarders and flanked with a mature and screening hedge providing total privacy, stone steps lead up to an additional grass area, again with shrub and flower boarders and again with the same hedges providing privacy to the garden.

Garage:
Located behind the garden off the lane that provides access to the cottage is a single garage with up and over door and additional parking space in front of the garage.
