There’s something particularly lovely about a character cottage that has all the charm you want, but none of the long list of jobs you don’t. This one has been taken right back to brick and completely renovated, so although the character remains, behind the scenes this is a home where pretty much everything has been done for you.
And when we say renovated, we really do mean it. The work has included a new roof covering and membrane, new gutters and fascias, underfloor insulation, new PVC sash windows, a complete electrical rewire and an entirely new plumbing system, including a new boiler and radiators. It’s the sort of work you don’t necessarily notice in the photographs, but it makes a huge difference when you’re buying a period home and want the charm without inheriting somebody else’s list of jobs.
The setting is a big part of the appeal too. Glencoe Road is one of those pretty Weybridge roads that people tend to fall for, lined with period homes and tucked away while still being brilliantly placed for everyday life. At the end of the street, a little footpath takes you over a bridge and into the park, giving you a lovely walking route towards town. Weybridge High Street, the River Thames and the River Wey are all within easy reach, so whether it’s coffee, dinner, a riverside walk or just getting out for some fresh air, there’s plenty on your doorstep.
Inside, everything feels fresh, considered and ready to enjoy. At the front is a cosy sitting room, giving you somewhere to retreat to in the evening, while the back of the house has been opened up to create a gorgeous kitchen and living space that feels much more connected to the garden.
The new kitchen has been beautifully finished with quartz worktops and there is plenty of room to cook, eat and spend time together, with double doors opening straight outside when the weather allows. There is also a downstairs WC, which is always a welcome addition in a period home.
Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms and a bathroom that feels more boutique hotel than cottage. There’s a freestanding roll top bath for long soaks, a large walk in shower, a couples sink with vanity storage and underfloor heating. It’s been finished beautifully and gives the whole upstairs a really luxurious feel.
Outside, the approximately 65ft rear garden has also been landscaped as part of the transformation, so the feeling of having the hard work done continues outside too. There’s plenty of space for summer lunches, entertaining friends, gardening or simply finding a sunny spot and switching off.
A little note about the images: We have used CGI styling in some of the photography to offer a little inspiration and help show how the spaces could look when furnished. The furniture and styling have been carefully selected to give as true a representation of the rooms, their proportions and potential as possible, without changing the structure or layout of the home. We believe CGI can be a really useful tool when used transparently, so if you would prefer to see the original, unedited photographs before arranging a viewing, we would be very happy to share these with you.
For me, this is a home that offers a really lovely balance. You get the character and charm of a period cottage, but with the reassurance of knowing that this hasn’t simply been given a fresh coat of paint and made to look pretty for sale. The important work has been done too. Add in a landscaped garden, a brilliant Weybridge location and the ability to walk into town or towards the river, and it’s a very easy home to imagine settling into.
And with no onward chain, there’s nothing above the sellers holding up your move.
Beautifully finished, full of character and with Weybridge quite literally at the end of the road. Come and see it for yourself
