Steeped in history, King Albert Chambers was designed in 1915 by Hull architect T. Beecroft Atkinson, although construction was delayed due to the outbreak of World War I, with the building finally completed in 1924.
Named in honour of King Albert I of Belgium in recognition of his association with the First World War, the building retains its impressive central round arched entrance, complete with an original carved stone lintel bearing the inscription "King Albert Chambers". The entrance also features four historic murals depicting the Grand Place in Brussels, Quai au Rosaire, Canal au Sucre and a medallion of King Albert of Belgium.
Originally comprising shops, law offices and bp offices on the upper floor, the building was thoughtfully converted into residential apartments in 2004, with a 150-year lease. Further recognising its historical and architectural importance, King Albert Chambers was awarded Grade II Listed status on 21st January 1994, protecting its distinctive external frontage and significant internal features.
