About this property

  • Private garden

Delightful two bedroom apartment with its own front door, a Freehold-share, and a wonderful west-facing private garden which extends nearly 90 feet! You are just a four minute stroll from Brockley Station.

The flat takes the entire ground floor of a semi-detached Victorian mansion, on a wide and tree-lined Brockley Conservation Area street. Created in 1850, Wickham Road is one of the most coveted addresses in the locale; the oldest and widest of the four grand north-south axis avenues in Brockley.

In your own front door and from the hall your supersized reception rest to your left. With an easterly orientation (fab for morning sun), it is over 18 feet by over 15 feet, with a huge bay window and an additional sash (graced with custom-made shutters). There is loads of space here to assign living and dining spaces, and built-in shelving pleasingly features.

Your eat-in kitchen sits off the reception (modern fitted wall and base units are here) and a large timber-framed glazed door delivers you to the gorgeous and mature part-walled garden.

Back to the hall and next along you have your first bedroom - of over 14 feet by over 8 feet. It has a cool sliding door and as throughout, neat white walls.

A modern bathroom is next up, with slim window, large format wall tiles and an over-bath shower so you have both options.

Finally at the back of the flat is bedroom two (with a window to garden views) - of over 9 feet by nearly 7 feet.

Location-wise, you are in an extremely good spot: Right in the heart of leafy Brockley Conservation Area, just a 10 minute stroll from dreamy Hilly Fields. You are close to Brockley, St. John's, New Cross, and Deptford Bridge DLR stations. You are close to transport and all the action, yet there is a spread out suburban feel. The area was constructed on farmland - predominantly in the second half of the C19th - for newly wealthy industrialists (whose business centred around nearby industrial zones in Deptford and Bermondsey).

Prior to its residential development, Brockley was home to many market gardens, due to the fine quality of its soil. The area was reputedly renowned for the growing of giant rhubarb and exemplary strawberries!

Your most local park is Hilly Fields - an open public green space with Victorian street lamps, sports courts, a playground, cafe, and even a stone circle! Its summit stands 175 feet above sea level - you have very cool panoramic views.

Beyond Hilly Fields, other local green spaces include Ladywell Fields (where you can follow the Ravensbourne River), Telegraph Hill Park, and Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery. Greenwich Park and unesco World Heritage Site is walkable too.

This is a fab spot to enjoy the centres of Brockley, New Cross, Deptford and Greenwich. Blackheath, Peckham and Camberwell are also a short bus ride/drive/cycle. You are also close to Goldsmiths University, with Goldsmiths cca gallery.

Locally, we like The Talbot pub and Middleton cafe, Brockley’s glorious Saturday market, Ellary’s, Mauby, l'Oculto Cocina, Joyce and Brickfields (Brockley). Ladywell - with its village-style high street - is close also, for your local Mama Dough (pizza), The Larder (deli), Wilson’s (restaurant) and a good independent butcher (Meat Jon). Deptford has good options too and a cool European-vibe in Market Yard. We like Jars Bar here. Check out Salt for pizzas, Marcella for heartening Italian suppers, and The Tea House for ace Chinese (among many other offerings).
