Malplaquet House is an exceptional Grade ii-listed early Georgian residence with a rich history in the Stepney Green conservation area of east London. Built between 1741 and 1742 and refined in the 1790s, it has been meticulously restored in recent years in consultation with The Spitalfields Historic Buildings Trust. Arranged over four generous storeys, the house spans nearly 4,400 sq ft and includes six bedrooms, with private walled gardens at both the front and rear. The restoration-executed with extraordinary care by master craftsmen behind many of Spitalfields' most celebrated
houses-preserves an authentic sense of period character.

As a result, Malplaquet House stands as a remarkable showcase of East End heritage and a rare, beautifully preserved example of early Georgian architecture.

Set behind a lush, secluded frontage on Mile End Road, the five bay London stock brick façade opens to four atmospheric storeys spanning almost 4,400 sq ft. The house offers six bedrooms and a sequence of elegant reception rooms enriched with period detail: Aged pine floors, original panelling, fine marble and bolection fireplaces, incised lime-plaster walls, Regency cornices, and beautifully distressed joinery. Craftsmanship is of the highest order, undertaken by artisans responsible for many of Spitalfields' most revered restorations.

The lower-ground floor kitchen is a highlight, combining reclaimed materials- Swedish green marble, Victorian fittings and Barber Wilson taps-with an early 19th century iron range and bespoke panelling. Bathrooms feature specimen marbles and 19th century tiles, while upstairs rooms retain original wedding doors, historic wallpapers, and iron-grate fireplaces. Practical touches include box sash windows and shutters, reclaimed castiron radiators, tulipwood-mounted dolly switches, and carefully layered period paints on lime plaster.

Private, walled gardens lie to the front and rear, the latter laid with York stone and brick paths and planted for yearround texture and tranquillity; commissioned plans for a glass-roofed winter garden (subject to consent) offer exciting scope.

The setting is superb: An ancient Roman route lined with restored historic architecture, moments from the green spaces of Mile End and Victoria Park, the cultural draw of Whitechapel and Spitalfields, and excellent transport - Stepney Green and Whitechapel (Elizabeth line) within
easy reach.
