Well-regarded schools within the local area include Hazlemere Junior School, which is just a few minutes' walk from the development. Unity Primary Academy, Willow Brook Primary School and Nursery, Friars Grove Primary and Parsons Heath CE Primary schools are all less than five minutes away by car. The nearest train station to Hollytree Walk is Hythe, less than 10 minutes' drive away and from there regular services run to Clacton, Frinton, Witham, Chelmsford, Stratford and London Liverpool Street (journey time around an hour). Colchester North Station, which is just over 10 minutes' drive away, is the main station in the town, with frequent trains to Ipswich and Norwich, in addition to Chelmsford and London Liverpool Street (journey time from around 50 minutes). Major roads easily accessible from Hollytree Walk include the A12 (for Ipswich, Lowestoft, Chelmsford, Brentwood and London), the A133 (for Clacton and Weeley), and the A120 (for Harwich, Braintree, Stansted Airport and Bishop's Stortford). Stansted Airport is 50 minutes' drive away via the A120.
Hollytree Walk is surrounded by open countryside so is an ideal base from which to explore, whether on foot, on horseback, or by bike. The development is also just 10 minutes' drive from Highwoods Country Park, which covers 370 acres and includes adventure play areas, a visitor centre, lakes, meadows and woodland. Colchester Castle - the largest Norman keep in Europe, which was built on the site of a 2,000 year-old Roman temple - together with Castle Park, which surrounds it, can be reached in around five minutes by car. Leisure World lies next to the lower park; it has a gym, three swimming pools (including a leisure pool with flumes and rapids), fitness studios, a spa and a sports hall. It is also a popular venue for live music, family entertainment and comedy within Charter Hall, which is located on the same site. The nearest cinema is around 10 minutes' drive away, on Head Street in the centre of Colchester. For theatre fans, the Mercury Theatre presents a comprehensive programme of drama, dance, children's entertainment, workshops and comedy; it is also around 10 minutes by car from Hollytree Walk. Colchester Zoo is around 15 minutes' drive away.
Colchester city centre boasts a vibrant mix of well-known stores, specialist shops, boutiques and independent retailers. Popular shopping areas include Culver Square, Lion Walk, Sir Isaac's Walk and High Street. Ipswich around 30 minutes' drive away and Chelmsford around 40 minutes' drive away, also have busy commercial districts and are popular with shoppers from throughout the region.
