Vidauban is situated 3 kms south of the A8 Autoroute, 40 minutes from the sea and 5 mins walk from the nearest village, with a supermaket and great restaurants meaning it s easy to get out and about or just pull up the drawbridge and relax.

Vidauban (5 min walk) is a small "working" french village straddling the R.N 7, the famous A road which, before the autoroute, bought all motor traffic from the north to the south of France.

If eating out is your thing then Vidauban has a long established restaurant just 2 mins walk away from the house, "Le Bastide de Magnans." The food and the setting are fantastic. There s also a rather special Pizza restaurant "La Bouteille a la Mer". A great take-away pizza and a deli that does a different take-away lunch every day together with your choice of several cafes (our favourite "Le Cafe de Paris" also does a fine and inexpensive lunch) means you don t need to get too involved in the kitchen. Market day is Sunday with a smaller market on Wednesdays. All the above shops and cafes and restaurants are all within 5 mins walk of the town square. On the way into the town (from direction Le Luc) and opposite the junction with the D48 is a huge parking area 1min walk from the square. The town also has a Doctor, Dentist, Chiropractor and 3 chemists, one of which specialises in "alternative medecin."

If the Cote D Azur attracts you then breakfast at St Tropez is 50 mins away. There s a great market on Saturday mornings with an interesting antiques section.

Alternately you can dine on the patio and if anybody is fit enough, leave around 9 pm for fantasy ice creams in Ste Maxime. The journey via the N7 to Le Muy (12 mins) and a new fast road across the Maures (20mins) will have you wandering the streets of this popular resort in no time. Every night there is a street market selling all the usual touristy stuff- but the ice creams are good.

La Garde Freinet, a hilltop town on the way to St Tropez is 25 min drive with a twisty backroad or larger, but much busier main road access.

Vidauban is surrounded by many typical and historic provencial towns, all within very easy reach, and as you travel this countyside you are invited to taste (and buy!) the local wines at every turn.
