The small Tuscan village of San Miniato is best known for its truffles—white truffles are found and revered here. A truffle festival in its honour is part of the tradition. The town is located on a hill not far from the Arno, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards that are so well tended that one imagines them being combed every day and the dust of the magnificent gardens being carefully swept away. Pisa, with its airport, is only 50 km away, as is Florence. It is an important economic centre, but its culture and sights should not be overlooked. Guided excursions, treasure hunts and truffle searches are available in San Miniato. Cigoli is known for its Madonna, who saved a child, and it is said that about 10 years ago she healed a young woman from Sicily. Every year in summer there are festivals in her honour. An organic farm has made a name for itself throughout Italy and also sells its wine and olive oil abroad.
In this area stands a huge 17th-century country house (part of it dating from the 17th century, the rest built later, in 1714), which was carefully renovated in 1999 and divided into three parts. Each part has separate entrances and a garden.
The first part from the left, approx. 300 square metres, is for sale, with approx. 5,000 square metres around the house and 7 hectares of land (approx. 4 hectares of forest and 3 hectares of olive trees, which are maintained by the organic farm). The nearby vineyards also belonged to the property but were sold to the organic farm for practical reasons.
Access: Convenient via a path, parking space under the house, next to the house or at the entrance or in your own garage (now used for garden machinery).
There is an artesian well for the garden.
To the left of the kitchen is a covered pergola and woodshed.
Ground floor: Entrance to the living area, which is completely open and continuous – living room with huge fireplace, exit to the pergola, kitchen-diner with dining table for 8 people. Next to it is a laundry room, also with access to the garden, and a pantry. Further on, up the stairs, is a large room – currently used as an office. Large shower room.
On the first floor, there are 4 bedrooms – one with its own bathroom and a bathroom for the others. Air conditioning upstairs.
One of the great things about this house is not only its dominant location, which offers sunshine all day long and a 360° panorama, but also the atmosphere created by the fine renovation, which you can feel immediately. Original old terracotta floors, antique fireplaces, doors and beams were sought and found. The staircase and bedrooms have been hand-painted – a kind of fresco. Carefully selected furnishings with a few modern touches – the result is a very warm, pleasant atmosphere.
