Former convent of Montescosso - Perugia (pg)

In the heart of the Umbrian hills, a few minutes from the E7 Rome-Cesena motorway, stands the former convent of Montescosso, a fascinating historic complex of about 1,600 square meters on three levels, as well as a basement. Surrounded by a private park of about 16 hectares, it offers an oasis of tranquility surrounded by nature, with panoramic views that enhance the timeless charm of the property. The structure, of inestimable historical and architectural value, lends itself to many destinations, including prestigious residence, accommodation or cultural center. Its strategic location guarantees a perfect balance between privacy and accessibility, making it a unique opportunity for those who want to invest in an exclusive context.

Background:

The convent of Montescosso is a donation of two nobles: The Counts Riccio Ricci and Virginia Macchi of Rieti. The donation was made by the count after the death of his wife, in her memory and by her will. In 1895 the count wrote Passionists and a Father left the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Stella (pg) to officiate at the chapel. In July 1898 other religious (two priests and two brothers) went there. At the beginning there was no shortage of difficulties related to the forced cohabitation of the religious community with the family of Count Ricci. Meanwhile, in August 1898 the apostolic rescript was issued for the canonical opening of the Retreat which was named after St. Joseph. After the death of Count Ricci in November 1917, the villa was entirely at the disposal of the Passionists. Various adaptations were made, although the villa did not have the architectural characteristics of a convent. In the meantime, a church was thought of and it was erected to a design by the engineer Belletti of Cesena, the expenses being borne by the Passionist Fr. Luigi Besi drawing the necessary from the family patrimony.
