The "Starboard Nacelle" first floor double room (all bills included - 17 metres square) is available. The room overlooks, amidst fields to the south, the river Stour as it flows west east parallel to the house.

The room is in a shared house built 1805 of 440 square metres internal floor area set in peaceful and secluded grounds within the dale (with 140 metres of river frontage) beside the beautiful village of Long Melford and is available to singles or couples.
The property benefits from off street parking, gas central heating, a fruitful apple and pear orchard and raspberry plants at the back of the house.

The Starboard Nacelle is £650 per month (all bills included).
Breaking the bills down (for your information) and amortising between a putative six inhabitants the council tax comes to £70 per month, the water bill £8 per month, the power bill circa £129 per month, £6 for the (optical fibre) internet and £42 for gardening, being £255 per lodger for all the bills. This breakdown is simply for comparison with landlords who charge bills separately. The rent does include all the bills.

IImprovements in 2025-6

The window is being improved to make it better express the architecture of the house. This is a circa £10,000 job of which a £6,600 deposit will have been paid by circa 02-Oct-25. During October materials will be gathered by the sub-contractor and the job itself scheduled. The aim of the work is to match the aspect ratio of the windows at the front of the house on the same first floor while increasing the room's natural light and insulation. We expect the work of replacing (and enlarging) the existing to be completed between 01-Feb-26 and 01-May-26. Meanwhile, the existing window will be required to remain closed. Today 09-Sep-25 a new pure latex mattress (£940) was orderedfor for the double bed which is due for delivery between 23-Sep-25 and 07-Oct-25. In view of this we have today set back in time the date for the room to become available from 09-Sep-25 to 16-Sep-25 (reducing potential time on the floor or the bare slats from 2-4 to 1-3 weeks. The aim is to have the room partially redecorated by 02-Oct-25 and then to have fresh photographs taken. Meanwhile we have today uploaded two amateurish ones.

The property is peradventure shared with a forty something website designing gentleman entrepreneur who performs gymnastics in the (waterless) swimming pool (gym), a sixty something gentleman online games (Bull Run also known as Manassas Junction 1861), and hopefully, Time Machine inventing-landlord (M.A. Cantab), a fifty something Kiwi (Orthodox) Reverend Doctor software-engineer-priest-lawyer (who is actually resident in the Old Garage) but is often to be found, in the atrium, thrashing the landlord at a game of Korea, the twenty something quality control engineeress, a thirty something agricultural worker of quarter-private means and his forty something part-time bookkeeping Ukrainian girl-friend, and two twenty something professionals, a Chinese born statistician working for the medical research council, and his Chinese born management consultant girl friend, and two twenty something computer scientists, not a couple, and, from time to time, particular friends of the aforementioned seven (the landlord being, naturally, friendless!) without whom the collective would be incomplete. For your information board gamers (depending on the game, so not go, scrabble, monopoly, cludo or chess!) would not, by a significant minority of the inhabitants, be frowned on and nor would piano players and classical musicians, libertarians (very approved of), history graduates, singers or apostles of the free market. As for those who think the world is going to Hades in a hand basket, who are more worried about global warming and overpopulation than the coming ice age and underpopulation, who would wisely decline to lay down their life for private property rights being extended to the asteroid belt and Mars or who simply like to party they would be more than welcome to put their case to a sceptical audience (which might include a majority of sympathisers).
