Brief Description
Believed to date back to the 14th century, Blakesware Manor was re-built in 1878 for Mrs Hadsley Gosselin and the Roman Catholic chapel was opened in 1896. The house was reduced and altered in 1937 due to fire damage and the range linking the chapel to the house was re-built as a monastic building in 1968. The property is attached to the chapel and the Grade ii listing is for the design interest of the neo-Tudor house and the importance of the Blakesware estate and the Gosselin family. It is a link between the neo-Tudor manor house and the neo-Gothic chapel and it is also of historical importance as according to Charles lambs journal 'The Blakesware set' came together at Blakesware Manor in december 1822 and left us a magical secret inheritance. Included in the Blakesware set were the first duke of wellington, Charles Lamb, William Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge and William Turner. The present owner has lived at the property since the year 2000 and has carried out a number of refurbishments including 2 new bathrooms, a cloakroom and a recently fitted kitchen.
