We asked the vendors about their unique family home and the time they have spent there. They have provided us a great insight into what makes this a really special property. What attracted you to the property when you bought it?
We fell in love with The Red Lion ( a former public house) instantly and its rich, steep history. The original windows that nod to its pub days, its prominent position in the heart of the village, and the vast space offered inside. Originally known as 'The White Bear', with parts of the original pub dating back to 1586, it's seen many landlords and holds many stories, and we are grateful to be a chapter in these hidden tales. As a Grade II listed house it offers the perfect blend of old meets new and every room is deceptively spacious because of what it used to be. We have loved being the first family to have lived in it as a residential dwelling over the last nine years.
What improvements have you made to the house? No old tavern would be complete without somewhere to have a cold one and we have turned the original, unused beer cellar into a quirky, well-stocked bar under the house. We have also created extra downstairs storage, fitted wardrobes in the bedroom attached to the ensuite, just repainted the entire inside and outside of the property and added new paving to the garden.
What have you enjoyed about living there ?
We have loved being part of The Red Lion's stories and helping to preserve its character and charm. It's been a light, stunning home that flows freely throughout offering a unique, and quirky lifestyle space you wouldn't find again. Our children have grown here and it just feels special and unique in every way.
Other aspects:
Everything was brand-new nine years ago and completely renovated from top to bottom, including new roof, insulation, plumbing, and electrics to create modern living.
A heat recovery ventilation system runs through the property.
Two car parking spaces at the back of the property.
Apart from spacious/living dining there is a separate snug downstairs.
Secondary glazing throughout put in nine years ago to preserve The Red Lion windows, one of which is an old entrance.
Downstairs toilet has shelved storage behind hidden door.
Paved garden with beautiful wisteria surrounds the back of the house.
A short walk to Borough Green station that serves both Victoria and London Bridge, London Waterloo and London Charing Cross directly
