The local area guide to living in Sevenoaks

Sevenoaks is located on the west of Kent, and just a mere 21 miles away from Charing Cross. It was in the 13th century that a market was formed, leading to a settlement in the area. In the 15th century, the creation of Knole House furthered the development of the village. Knole is one of the largest properties in England, with 365 rooms, 52 staircases and seven courtyards, and is a civil parish that is still to this day, inhabited by the same family, the Sackvilles. The Chartwell property is also situated in Sevenoaks, and was much loved by the Churchill family.

As well as a rich history, Sevenoaks features some gorgeous countryside scenery, beautiful gardens, and the remains of Roman architecture. Nature lovers will fall in love with the medieval woodlands of The High Weald, with its uniquely shaped fields and ancient route ways. Riverhill Himalayan Gardens is an ideal destination to take the family, and are known for their carpets of bluebells in the woodland during Spring time, as well as rhododendrons and azaleas. The hilled gardens are full of history, and provide a breath-taking backdrop, particularly when the weather is good.
