The Local Area Guide to Living in Bankfoot

Those looking to relocate to a quiet country town will be hard pressed to find a place that is quieter than Bankfoot. This tiny Scottish village is located eight miles north of the city of Perth and falls within the Perth and Kinross council area. A love of the great outdoors and an adventurous spirit will come in handy in Bankfoot, as entertainment facilities are few and far between here.

Bankfoot is home to only one pub - the Bankfoot Inn - which is housed in a restored 18th century coaching inn. Pubs in the United Kingdom don't get more traditional than the Bankfoot Inn and locals and visitors alike can expect to find a range of authentic ales, hearty food, a roaring fireplace and a friendly atmosphere.

As well as unlimited scope for exploring the surrounding countryside, locals can treat themselves to other outdoor activities such as tennis, badminton and lawn bowls. In fact, Bankfoot's bowling club even hosted the Caledonia Challenge Cup in 2010.

Information about the local residents

According to the Census of 2011, slightly more than 1,200 people currently call Bankfoot home. Families and individuals who are looking to move to Bankfoot will find a tight-knit, family-oriented community who warmly welcome newcomers to the village. It shouldn't come as a surprise that you will quickly come to recognise many of the faces around Bankfoot - seeing as so few people live there!

Bankfoot places a strong emphasis on community spirit and this spirit is manifested in the Bankfoot Village Gala. This celebration is a recent fixture on the village's annual calendar, with the inaugural Gala only taking place in 2014.

Aside from the Bankfoot Inn, another popular public meeting place for Bankfoot locals is the Bankfoot Church Centre. The Centre opened in 2008 and was built to replace the 19th century church that sadly burnt down in 2004.

Nearby schools

Auchtergaven Primary School is the only primary school in the village of Bankfoot. The school takes its name from the Church of Scotland parish of Auchtergaven, in which Bankfoot resides. When Education Scotland last reviewed the school in May 2009, they recorded 146 pupils - including 38 children at nursery level - in attendance at Auchtergaven Primary School. At the time, the school was praised for the strong leadership of its head teacher in improving the work of the school, as well as the school's success when it came to meeting the needs of children who required additional learning support.

Children at the secondary school level will most likely find themselves heading to the nearby city of Perth in order to attend high school. Perth has a number of high schools that perform relatively well on a national level, including Perth High School and Perth Academy.

Getting around

A number of buses regularly pass through Bankfoot on their way to other settlements in the surrounding areas, including Perth, Dunkeld, Aberfeldy and Spittalfield. For those with their own cars, Bankfoot is conveniently located near the A9, from which Perth can be reached in just over 20 minutes. The A9 also joins up with the M90 motorway just south of Perth and carries on down to Edinburgh. Perth is also the place to go for people looking to catch National Rail trains to other locations around the United Kingdom. The city of Edinburgh is only 1 hour and 20 minutes away from Perth by train.

Local shops

As you would expect in such a small village - shops are hard to come by in Bankfoot. As a result, residents will most likely find themselves heading to nearby Perth in order to complete their weekly food shops, as well as to pick up any other odds and ends that they find they might be in need of. Perth is home to a number of supermarkets, including M&S Simply Food, as well as the Asda Perth Superstore. Perth's close proximity to Bankfoot mean that even though the village might feel small and isolated, in reality it is never too far from the conveniences that living in a city (albeit a relatively small one) provide.
