Ottershaw village, and civil parish, is situated amid the gorgeous countryside of Surrey in the Runnymede district. The ward encompassing it, Foxhills, is a rural-suburban mix within easy reach of bustling London, only 20 miles north east, but removed enough to remain a peaceful haven. West Byfleet, Woodham, Addlestone and Chertsey are some of Ottershaw’s neighbours.

Fishing is a common sport in Ottershaw, which is blessed in abundance with the typical gentle rivers and lakes of Surrey, and walkers and cyclists have equal to delight in. Manor homes and areas of outstanding natural beauty make for plenty to explore. The Mansion of Ottershaw Park is one such manor that has, in fact, been converted into private residences. The village holds several fairs throughout the year, and the community is keen on its historical preservation.

Ottershaw’s village population is 1,319, but the parish reaches 2,853. Almost half of the entire population falls within the 30-59 age group. Residents travel an average distance of about 14 kilometres to work, and around 80% travel by car. The prevalent local industries are Professional, Scientific and Technical, and Business Administration and Support Services. Within the village is Ottershaw C of E Infant and Junior School, which performed quite well at just above the national average in 2015. 82% of pupils achieved at least level 4 in all subjects, compared to 80% nationally. The nearest secondary is Jubilee High School, less than a mile away in Addlestone, covering ages 11-16. Also very close by is the Roman Catholic Salesian School in Chertsey, only one mile away, which is a high-performing comprehensive secondary and sixth form. Here, 99% of pupils achieved at least 3 A-levels.

Getting around

Railway stations are in Chertsey and Addlestone, and others in the area include West Byfleet, Byfleet & New Haw, Weybridge and Longcross. Situated just off the M25, the village benefits from excellent road connections. Chertsey is 8 minutes away by bus, 4 minutes by car or 45 minutes walking. Cycling would also be a great way to get around locally.

London is reached in 45 minutes by a bus and train combo, consisting of a bus journey to Woking in 14 minutes and then a 26-minute train to London Waterloo. The whole journey to London can also be done in 35 minutes by car. Frequent buses travel to neighbouring towns, and London can be reached in 2 hours 30 minutes via the 461 bus. Guildford, Bracknell and Weybridge are all within very easy distance and provide good work opportunities, activities and shopping.

There are several small local shops in Ottershaw, and dining includes the Manor House Restaurant at the Foxhills Golf Club, Otter's Spicy Cottage Indian Restaurant, Dragon Wok Chinese Takeaway, Miller and Carter Steakhouse, the riverside Bridge Hotel and two pubs, The Castle and The Otter. Ottershaw has a village hall, a mini market, a surgery and a church.

Many lovely towns in Surrey are within very easy reach, so Ottershaw is well-resourced with a full range of shopping opportunities, including shopping centres in Bracknell and Guildford. Additionally, there are all manner of restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs.
