The biggest proportion of people work in the retail trade, human health, social sciences, manufacturing, and education. 94% of the Leeds population stated that they consider their health fair to very good; this figure meets the national average.

Of the many schools in Leeds to choose from there are a good number that have been declared ‘Outstanding’ in recent Ofsted reports. These can be found around the centre of Leeds as well as in suburban areas including Oakwood, Roundhay, Moortown and Headingley, to name a few.

The University of Leeds is one of three Universities that the city has to offer, the others being Leeds Beckett and Leeds Trinity. Leeds University is ranked very highly in the University League tables and has recently been named as the ‘University of the Year’ in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017.

Getting around

Leeds is a well-connected city and has a large train station to the South of the city centre than runs many nationwide services, as well as a busy bus station that runs local and national bus services. The local busses run all around the city and its outskirts, as well as surrounding towns, making it easy to get around. There are also a large number of reliable taxi firms that are reasonably priced and can be booked in advance, as well as the Hackney Carriages that can be flagged from the street.

Local shops

Leeds has many new places appearing all over the city, with a huge change that has recently been made being the 2013 completion of the new Trinity Leeds shopping centre. This amazingly designed mall has won awards for its architecture and hosts a broad range of shops and contemporary eateries. There is also a new development set to open late in 2016 known as Victoria Gate, which will provide residents and tourists alike with 2,000 square miles of retail and leisure space as well as a huge flagship John Lewis store.
