The local area guide to living in Woodbridge

Woodbridge is a small town in the Suffolk Coastal district, situated 8 miles off the East coast of England, in East Anglia. Woodbridge is a place of great historical significance, with the earliest discoveries originating from the Neolithic era. One of the most magnificent treasure discoveries in British history can be found in Sutton Hoo, the site of a ship burial, dating back to the start of the 7th century and the reign of King For primary education, St Mary's Church of England Primary School, Woodbridge Primary School and Kyson Primary School are all located in the town. All 3 of the schools have received favourable reviews from Ofsted inspections. Woodbridge High School offers normal secondary schooling as well as sixth form education, with strong focus on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Farlingaye High School is another of the co-educational academies based in Woodbridge.

Getting around

From Woodbridge Railway Station, the East Suffolk Line goes to stations ranging from Ipswich to Lowestoft. The journey to Ipswich is just under 20 minutes, and from there the Greater Anglia service goes all the way to London Liverpool Street in roughly an hour and 10 minutes. There are also various different buses that go to areas, such as Charsfield, Ipswich, Melton and Kesgrave. The M25 London Orbital and M11 motorways are also located not too far from town, making it easy to navigate to other destinations across the country.

Local shops

There is a considerable emphasis on local produce in Woodbridge, and this can be seen at the Woodbridge Farmers Market, which takes place on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month in the community centre. The market stalls sell all types of fresh food and drink, as well as gifts and plants. Independent stores are also a common feature in town, with stores such as Sweet Dreams, Hannah Stowe and Ninny Noo selling custom made clothing and accessories.

The Galley is a family run restaurant offering speciality cuisine, using locally sourced ingredients, while the East Coast Diner offers a really vibrant atmosphere and serving American food such as Brooklyn burgers and hot dogs. The Angel is a quaint pub with friendly staff and a choice of over 250 different gins. However, if lagers and ales are more your thing, then the Kings Head Inn, situated in a 15th century building, is the ideal place for you.
