Coveta Fumá - Central
Unique Coveta Fuma is an unspoiled, secluded, hidden coastal village nestled between mountains, fir trees and the blue Mediterranean Sea.
There are a few scattered bars and restaurants, a small supermarket and a post office which opens for a few hours per day and a quaint church offering a service every Sunday. There is also a tram stop heading south to Alicante and North to Benidorm and then onto Denia.
The stunning coastline of Coveta Fumá is approximately 2.2 miles long, with rocky coves and secluded bays, many front line properties have their own private access.
There are two sandy coves; one of which has facilities for daily moorings and the other, perfect for a relaxed swim or a little snorkelling; more like a lagoon than a beach and extremely safe for children and non swimmers. Hours can be spent on the rocks catching small fish, crabs and even the odd small octopus and during the hot, long, summer days adults can be found sitting and chatting for hours, cooling in the calm waters.
There is a lifeguard in the summer months and toilet facilities at either of the restaurants, built and run by a local Spanish families. Sunday is the only time this beach is busy, as it is very popular with Spanish locals who come with their boats and families for the day.
El Campello is about 25 kilometres north of Alicante Airport and about 25 kilometres south of Benidorm, situated in the heart of the Costa Blanca. It has a 23 kilometre stretch of coastline with beautiful sandy beaches, offering a landscape of contrasts.
Along with broad, sandy beaches such as El Campello and Muchavista, there are also cliffs and small coves, such as those of La Coveta Fumá or La Venta Lanuza.
Its crystal clear waters and excellent year-round weather make this an ideal place for permanent living or holidays and there are also plenty of water sports to keep you active, such as sailing, fishing, swimming, scuba diving and windsurfing. In fact, El Campello has a lovely Marina and a Sailing Club.
There are plenty of golf clubs with the nearest being the famous Bonalba just a few kilometres away. Hiking and cycling routes in the surrounding mountains are other activities available here. In one of these mountains in Busot, you will find the Caves of Canelobre, which houses a spectacular display of stalagmites and stalactites.
Next to the harbour is a 500 year old look-out tower used against invading pirates. Below this tower, on a small rocky point called La Isleta, are archaeological remains that date from 3000 years bc through the Bronze and Roman ages. Pottery found here from Islamic residents of the 11th century, are displayed in the museum in Alicante.
During Easter week, the Naucotur fair (Feria de Náutica) is held at the marina focusing on sailing, trade and tourism. It is also well worth going to the port´s fish auction held every afternoon of the year, Monday-Friday, in the market building.
El Campello’s major festival is “The Moors and the Christians” which takes place around 9th October and lasts for one week. Battles are re-enacted on the beach and there are street parades with floats and processions and parties.
There are also plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs along the promenade to keep you entertained.
